Comments Off on Adding Infographics to Your Website
Infographic (noun):a chart, diagram, or illustration (as in a book or magazine, or on a website) that uses graphic elements to present information in a visually striking way.
That’s the official definition of an infographic, according to Merriam Webster. Infographics are a great way to make your website stand out with engaging content, and they can supplement text elements. However, photography is also an excellent resource. So, how do you know when to use infographics?
Infographics vs. Stock Photos
When designing a website, developers will either use stock photography throughout the website or infographics. To determine which direction to take, one of the first steps is to understand what type of content the website will contain.
Infographic Criteria:
Are complex procedures or topics going to be displayed?
Is a flat website design being used?
Do you want an alternative to stock photos?
Is the website design going to be less blocky?
Industry matters in how beneficial infographics will be. The medical field is an example of this. If you are in the medical field and lack recent pictures of your equipment, infographics are an excellent resource.
Why is that?
If a hospital website uses stock photos for medical equipment, the patient may assume that the equipment shown in the picture is the equipment used by the hospital. Infographics are a great alternative because they can display equipment in a visually appealing way without creating these false assumptions.
One of the websites Impact Marketing recently added infographics to was Cedar Valley Primary Care and Walk-In Clinic’s. Because the clinic lacked professional photos of their equipment, we created infographics for the different machines used.
Other Industries
Another industry where infographics are common is insurance. Infographics help display common legal documents without disclosing private information. Insurance companies typically have content-heavy websites, and infographics break up content while having a visual aid.
Infographics can be and are used in every industry. It is a great way to promote content while visually engaging users. The best course to determine when to use infographics is to establish how you want to present content, such as statistics, to users. Infographics can also be used alongside photography – there’s no reason you can’t have both.
Overall, infographics are a fun, unique way to revitalize content and a favorable alternative to stock photos. If you want to give your website a new look using infographics, contact Impact Marketing at 319-232-4332 or at impactmt.com to get started!
